Caxixi Shaker

(Pronounce “ka-shee-shee”)

Made by hand in Ghana using native materials and traditional methods, the shaker can produce two different sounds by either shaking the inner pebbles on the disc or against the woven sides. Hear what a caxixi sounds like.

A traditional hand-held percussion instrument, Ghanaian legend informs us that these shakers were believed to call forth enchanted spirits and fend off evil.
